How Was the Community or village of Flag Pond Named?
The Scuttle Butt or rumor that I have been told was the Name Flag Pond came from a young lady and her nickname was Stefanne. She was walking the edge of a pond and saw the flag flower Iris (Scientific Name: Iris pseudacorus) growing on the edge of a pond and that how the Name Flag Pond,TN was created ....... from the flower Flag at the edge of the pond.

Flag Pond has one small store, a volunteer fire department,several churches and a Post Office which is next to the Flag Pond Baptist Church.FlagPond is Near Johnson City, TN on Interstate 181 South,Take Exit 5- Flag Pond Rd.

    Take a scenic panorama drive of the Unaka Mountain, Tennessee
    The Mountain drive takes you on a 30 mile loop of the Unaka Ranger District of the     Cherokee National Forest. As you travel through Unicoi County you will see some of the most beautiful scenery in Tennessee.

    • Unaka Mountain Overlook ----- The elevation here is nearly a mile high and look to the right to see portions of Erwin.
      • Unaka Mountain Wilderness --------- Look for deer, bear, and turkey that are seen here. Motorized vehicles is prohibited but camping, hiking, hunting, and other activities are allowed.
        • Indian Grave Gap ------ It is possible to stand in two states and two national forests( Cherokee National Forest - TN.and Pisgah National Forest - NC ) from here the famous Appalachian Trail that runs from Maine to Georgia.
          • Rock Creek Recreation Area ----- Enjoy the clear, cool water of the swimming area.

            United States Forest Service District Office loaded with information about the beautiful Unaka Mountains, and the            Cherokee National Forest... The Unaka Ranger District (1205 N. Main St. Erwin, TN.) is one of six ranger districts making up the 625,000 acre Cherokee National Forest.

       May 17 - 19, 2002 ---- 6th Annual Strawberry Festival    Arts & crafts, and live entertainment.   Unicoi, TN,

       August 10 - 12, 2002 ---- 2nd Annual "Civil War Days" in Unicoi County, Unicoi, TN.

       First Friday and Saturday of October ---- This annual two-day Apple Festival event, located on the downtown street of Erwin, Tennessee. Celebrating the apple heritage of     Unicoi County. With live Gospel & bluegrass entertainment, arts & handmade crafts and over 300 vendors line downtown streets of Erwin TN, offering a multitude of handmade craft items,delicious apples and other great food.
